Full Description
April 2011. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of undated linear ditches and several possible rectangular enclosures are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4) to the south-west of the former Old Hall, Hethersett.
The ditch runs from TG 1503 0397 to TG 1509 0392 and is in the centre of the field, either side of which are six possible rectangular enclosures, measuring between 12 and 14m by between 9 and 11m internally. It is possible that these features relate to former stock management, or to post medieval garden features associated with the Old Hall, it is difficult to be certain.
Further earthwork ditches are visible to the north east of the Old Hall, centred on TG 1525 0417, together with a small earthwork bank, measuring 5m in external diameter, all of which are likely to represent post medieval garden features.
E. Bales (NMP), 07 April 2011.
