Map

A small landscape park shown on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S1).
D. Robertson (HES), 6 May 2011.

The park is not in existence on the East Poringland Enclosure map of 1805 when the land was owned by Sir Roger Kerrison. A smaller area of park than the present extent is shown on Bryant's map (S2) and is marked 'Rookery'. The 1st edition 1 inch OS (S3) shows the park had then been extended south to Wash Lane as at present. Kelly's directory of 1900 describes Poringland House as a mansion of brick 'pleasantly situated on the southern slope of Poringland Hills, with beautiful and extensive grounds'.
A. Yardy (HES), 3 June 2011.
