Full Description
After moving several times this small shoe making firm run by S. Thompson ended up in Golden Dog Lane, occupying houses 24 and 26. Shoe making machinery was fitted into various rooms around the houses. The firm made hand-made, quality shoes. They specialised in children's school shoes and page boys shoes which they branded 'Bromwells'. They also had a niche making boots for jockeys. The main outlets for their products were high class west end stores such as Harrods. In interview with NIAS, the retired Mr Thompson said he could make a pair of shoes in an hour which could retail at £40 and he employed 8 other people. His wares were of such high quality that they were worn by the page boys at the Charles - Diana wedding.
