Map

Site owned by Marshall and Howard & Son around 1920. Kelly's Directory (S1) lists them as builders, contractors and brick makers. 2 storey building fronts the road with timber buildings around the yard at the back. There is a trench running the width of the brick building with the machine shafting inside, as opposed to being overhead. The shaft extended beneath the east wall to provide power to the large sawing bench in one of the sheds. Troughs extended out from the trench and contained the belt pulleys used to transfer power to the machinery in the joinery. The end room of the brick building was the engine room. When NIAS surveyed this site in 1987, the machinery was gone but the line shafting and main pulley wheels were still intact. The building was soon demolished and redeveloped as housing.
