Map

According to directory information, there were several stonemasons working from Railway Road as early as 1845. Holman however did not start until at least 1890, and did not have his own premises built until 1891 (date stone on building). He had his premises expanded into a home in 1895 (date stone on bedroom dormer). The yard was altered in the 1930s, changing wooden gates to the wrought iron present today and moving the workshop from the side of the yard to the rear into the larger stable building and moving the horses into the smaller workshop space. The site is visible on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map (S1). The business is still going under the same name on the same premises. The building has been very little altered since being recorded in the 1970s (S2).
W. Arnold (HES), 20 June 2011.
