Map

June 2011. Building survey.
Forge Cottage is of early 19th century date, and is shown on the Bawburgh Tithe Map (S1) of 1839. On (S1) the cottage is shown detached from the coach house. At some time between 1839 and 1883 (S2) a lean-to extension was added to the back of the house, beneath a catslide roof, joining the house to the coach shelter.
The fabric of the building is knapped flint with brick dressings under a pantile roof.
On the west gable-end is a raised cement panel which looks as if it displayed an advertisement, perhaps for the forge after which this property may have been named. However, there is no other evidence for a forge at this location.
See (S3) for further information.
A. Cattermole (HES), 18 July 2011.

See also (S4) which reiterates much of the content of (S3).

This building was considered for Listing, but it was concluded that the criteria for listing were not fulfilled.
See (S5) for further information.
