November-December 2010. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
A number of archaeological features including a gully, ditches, channels and some large depressions or pits dating to the medieval period (12th to 14th century) were revealed. A large assemblage of pottery was revealed dating from the mid-9th to 16th century. Animal remains appear to have derived from domestic food and butchery waste with some hunted species and possible industrial waste from horn working. Two ditches contained significant quantities of cereal grain and cereal grains were recovered from samples across the site.
