Map

May 2011. Photographic Survey.
Map and photographic record made of chalk workings off Rosary Road.
The chalk mine is probably of post-medieval date, as indicated by the use of brick to stabilise the tunnels. Most of the tunnels are wide enough to have accommodated carts and the remains of what appear to be rails can be seen on the floor of some tunnels.
See report (S1) for further details.
S. Howard (HES), 16 August 2011.

The brick stabilisation, rails, shelters, beds and stretchers visible in the photographic survey are the remains of a Civil Defence shelter, probably Cold War in date. Chalk workings remain undated.
K. Hamilton (HES) 8 November 2012.
