Map

August 2011. Norfolk NMP.
A group of ditches or drains, of unknown but probable medieval to post medieval date, are visible as soilmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S4), centred at TG 0891 0102. The southernmost angled ditch, which is also the most substantial, could represent a former line of the parish boundary between Wymondham and Wicklewood, which currently lies immediately adjacent to their west. The site lies on the edge of the valley bottom of a tributary of Dyke Beck, itself a tributary of the Tiffey. Hence a drainage function seems likely, even for those features that also functioned as boundaries. The herring-bone pattern typical of more modern land-drainage schemes is also visible on the aerial photographs, as is the former edge of the floodplain, marked in part to the east of the site by a Tithe Map field boundary (see (S5)).
