Summary

A post-medieval pit, possibly a marl pit, was identified as an earthwork during a rapid identification survey and is also visible on lidar imagery. The earthwork corresponds with a pit shown on historical Ordnance Survey maps. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2015), it is probable that the earthwork still survives.

Map

February 1998. Walkover Survey.
Rapid Earthwork Identification Survey (Compartment 1046).
Large pit, probably a marl pit, of unknown date.
See report (S1) for further details.
S. Howard (HES), 2 September 2011. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 18 August 2015.

July 2019. Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The possible marl pit described above is visible as an earthwork on imagery from a lidar survey (S2). It is depicted on historical Ordnance Survey maps, such as the First Edition (S3), indicating that it is of late post-medieval date (or, at least, was still open in the 19th century). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is probable that the earthwork still survives.
The mapped extent of this record has been refined [1].
