Summary

During a rapid earthwork identification survey in 1998, two banks were identified, probably forming the boundary of The Long Plantation shown on the 6 inch 1st edition Ordnance Survey map (1879-1886). What are probably the same banks are also visible as earthworks on visualised lidar data, from a survey flown in 2015. The relatively recent date of the lidar survey means that the earthworks probably still survive.

Two banks probably forming the boundary of The Long Plantation shown on the 6 inch 1st edition ordnance survey map (1879-1886). One bank is aligned west to east 2m in width and 0.4m high with a ditch 1.5m in width and 0.2m deep. The second bank is aligned north to south and is 10m in width and 0.7m high.
See report (S1) for further details.
S. Howard (HES), 2 September 2011. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 18 August 2015.

January 2020. Breckland National Mapping Programme.
Earthwork banks visible on visualised lidar data (S2) are probably the same as those described above. As suggested, these are probably banks defining the boundary around and within Long Plantation, as shown on historical Ordnance Survey maps, such as the 1st edition 6 inch (S3). As they are depicted on historical maps, they have not been mapped by the project.
