Summary

During a rapid earthwork identification survey in 1998 a number of pits were observed in the south of the plantation compartment.

Rapid Earthwork Identification Survey (Compartment 6069).
A series of ovoid pits dug into the side of a south-east facing slope 10m in width and 1.5m deep of varying lengths between 20 and 30m. The pits are not visible on the 1 inch 1st edition ordnance survey map (1836) and could relate to flint, gravel or clay extraction.
