Map

Grade II listed fire engine house dating to 1833 with village lock-up dating to around 1820. The building is a single storey structure constructed from red brick laid in Flemish bond with a slate roof. The southern gable end has double doors dating to 1983 which replaced taller double doors reaching to eaves line. The upper part of the door was weatherboarded in 1983. A limestone date plaque above gives a date of 1833. The lock-up consists of a simple rectangular building with a plank door in the southern gable end with strap hinges and padlock with lock plate and hasp. The interior of the engine house is a simple open space without adornment. Half of the lock-up brick barrel-vaulted roof has collapsed. The fire engine house closed in 1962 and the building was reopened in 2002 as a museum by the Stalham Old Firehouse & Clink Preservation Trust. The museum houses a fire engine from the Bressingham Fire Museum, old fire equipment and a wartime pump and two greatcoats.
