Full Description
November 2011. Norfolk NMP.
Part of a possible enclosure or an L-shaped boundary ditch, of probable medieval to early post medieval date, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 0910 0220. It appears to respect the modern field boundary to the east, but seemingly pre-dates another field boundary to its north which is depicted on the 1844 Tithe Map (S3). It may represent a small agricultural enclosure, perhaps for livestock, but could instead merely be a field boundary or drainage ditch. In terms of the latter function it is significant that fainter linear cropmarks on the same alignment (not mapped), visible to the west in the same field, are likely to represent modern under-drainage, their orientation determined by the local topography.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 3 November 2011.
