Map

A 19th Century milestone marking Norwich 15 miles, Cromer 7 miles and Aylsham 4 miles, and also incorporating an OS benchmark. One of 11 surviving milestones along the former Norwich to Cromer turnpike. This turnpike was first created in 1794 and ran from St Augustine's Gate in Norwich to Aylsham, but was extended in 1811 to reach Cromer, before being disturnpiked in 1876.

This milestone is the oldest of the surviving ones along this turnpike, and is very similar to the Norwich 12 and Norich 13 milestones along the Norwich to Holt road (S2). It is therefore likely to have been commisioned around the same time as them.

(S1) contains details about this and the other milestones along this route.
