Full Description
One of 14 surviving milestones along the former Norwich to Scole Turnpike, marking Norwich 11 miles and Ipswich 32 miles. This turnpike was created in 1768/1769, running from the junction with the Norwich to Thetford Turnpike just south of St Stephen's Gate to Scole bridge on the Suffolk border, and lasted for 106 years before being disturnpiked in 1874.

Milestone Society members cleaned and painted this marker. Ground level markings were noted during this work.

2014. Maintenance work by the Milestone Society.
Milestone Society members raised the milestone to allow for the ground level markings noted in previous work to become visible. The markings spell out Long Stratton, other faint lettering was also seen. This section was painted to match the top. A French drain was created at the markers base.
