Full Description
One of 7 surviving milestones along the Norwich to Beccles road, marking Norwich 7 miles, Beccles 10 miles, Ipswich 51 miles, Yarmouth 17 miles and London 123 miles. This road never became a turnpike although it was a well travelled route.
The milestones along this route are of varying styles, indicating that they were put up separately by the parish councils and thus are almost impossible to accurately date. However, this Milestone was put up in 1985 by the Capps family as a memorial to their parents, and the inscription reads "THIS MILESTONE WAS ERECTED IN MEMORY OF ARNALL AND ELIZABETH CAPPS OF THIS PARISH WHO PASSED AWAY IN 1960".
(S1) contains information regarding this and other milestones along this route.
D. Holburn (HES), 23 January 2012.
