Map

One of 13 surviving milestones along the Great Yarmouth to North Walsham road, which was never turnpiked.

The vast majority of the milestones along this route are Norfolk County Council milestones, probably put up in the early 20th Century. However, three milestones (NHER 56622, NHER 56625 and NHER 56627), are much earlier square stone pillars, and are likely to have been erected by parishes during the 19th Century.

Although not a turnpike, it must have been a well travelled route to warrant maintenance by the County Council.
