Full Description
March-April 2011. Trial Trenching.
Twenty eight trial trenches were excavated in three discrete areas in advance of construction of a new bio-energy plant. Very few archaeological features and finds were encountered, but landscape and environmental data was recorded.
Three north-south aligned post holes and a possible pit containing animal bone fragments were recorded in the southern investigation area. None of these features could be securely dated but the alignment of the post holes is consistent with modern field boundaries, indicating a possible post-medieval or later date.
Several other possible features and several pieces of timber initially thought to have been worked were concluded to be of natural origin, but timber samples were retained for analysis.
A single Late Prehistoric worked flint was recovered from the topsoil (previously recorded under NHER 56668).
See report (S1) for further information.
See NHER 56666 for details of the eastern investigation area and NHER 58287 for details of the western investigation area.
The archive associated with this work has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2011.302).
