Map

March-April 2011. Trial Trenching.
Twenty eight trial trenches were excavated in three discrete areas in advance of construction of a new bio-energy plant. Very few archaeological features and finds were encountered, but landscape and environmental data was recorded.
One small pit with a possible post hole in the base and a narrow, shallow ditch were recorded within the western investigation area. Several other possible features and several pieces of timber initially thought to have been worked were concluded to be of natural origin, but timber samples were retained for analysis.
See (S1) for further information.
See NHER 56666 for details of the south-eastern investigation area and NHER 56667 for details of the southern investigation area.
