The school was built in 1865 as a mixed public elementary school with associated teacher's house. The buildings are constructed from red brick with stone surrounds to the original windows and a stone string cornice at 4ft from the ground. The school was scheduled for closure in 1955/6 but is still in use as a voluntary controlled school.
