NHER 57038 (Monument record) - 1921 style Place Name Sign for West Runton

One of 28 surviving 1921 Ministry of Transport style Place Name Signs. This sign is lozenge-shaped and is divided horizontally in three sections. The top, triangular section is occasionally used to indicate which road the sign is positioned on, and reads "A149". The middle, rectangular section contains the name of the town the sign is for, and this sign reads “WEST RUNTON/PLEASE/DRIVE SLOWLY”. The bottom, triangular section is used to display the authority that is responsible for the upkeep of the sign and reads “NORFOLK C. C.”.

The 27 surviving original signs were all made by the Royal Label Factory in Stratford Upon Avon, and where the original post still survives, the factory’s name can be seen cast on it.
