Full Description
A post-medieval milestone recorded by the Milestone Society, originally positioned along the Downham Market to Ely road and now located in a private garden. It is a triangular-plan stone with the inscription written in two indented panels on two of the three faces.
The inscription reads:
LHS: "HILGAY.2./SOUTHERY.5./ELY.16.".
RHS: "DOWNHAM.1./LYNN.12.".

Believed to have been renovated and installed in 1980, prior to the road widening.

This stone was rescued by a local resident, the late Jim Sharpe, when the bypass was being built and moved to this location. It has now (May 2014) been transferred to the Parish Council who are working with the Milestone Society to renovate and find a suitable site for its reinstatement.
