A plain brick rectangular National School with a teacher's house backing on to it was built in 1840. The school was extended in 1874 when it became a Board School. The teacher's residence was then demolished and Boys and Girls cloakrooms took its place to the rear of the building. The school was again extended in 1882 and 1899, when a new school house was also built in Long Road, a short distance from the school. The School had further extensions and modernisation up until it closed in 1967 when a new school was built in The Footpath, Poringland. The building is now the Nightingale Centre.
