Full Description
June 2012
Norcon pillbox recorded by P. Hewitt in Docking.
C. Kolonko (HES), 06 June 2012
October 2012 Photographic Survey
Surviving WW2 Norcon pillbox with domed roof constructed from reinforced concrete. Aligned north-east to south-west with the entrance facing south-west. This pillbox would have covered the field to the north and the road leading into the village further north.
The pillbox is in excellent condition.
C. Kolonko (HES), 22 October 2012.
This is one of five Norcon pillboxes now recorded in Docking. The others are located at TF 7681 368 (NHER 30778), TF 7671 368 (NHER 30779), TF 7636 3701 (NHER 58229) and TF 7646 3709 (NHER 65268). These are a significant group, Docking being one of only two locations in the county where this type of structure is known to have been present (the other being a group of coastal defences in the vicinity of Kelling and Weybourne – see NHER 24185).
P. Watkins (HES), 10 January 2022.
June 2025. Northwest Norfolk Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AI&M) Project.
The Second World War Norcon pillbox described appears to be visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and 2017 (S1-S2). It is largely obscured by vegetation, so the accuracy of its identification and mapping from the aerial sources is not certain. As it is visible on aerial photography from 2017 (S2), it is likely that it still survives.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 18 June 2025.
