Map

July 2012. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of possible ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1) on land to the east of Snetterton airfield, in close proximity to a possible Bronze Age round barrow (NHER 10788, 57378). They are centred on TM 0149 8969, and it is possible that they represent a fragmentary possible enclosure, measuring approximately 70m by 120m.
The ditches are only very faintly visible on one set of photographs and have therefore been recorded with a note of caution, but since the land on which they show was marked as an area of heath on the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition map (S2), and is likely to have been only recently ploughed at the time of photography (S4), these features may have only been visible for a short time. Whilst trial trenches in the vicinity did not appear to record any archaeological features (NHER 35980) (S3), fieldwalking revealed neolithic flints and prehistoric pottery (S4) and geophysical survey of the area revealed further possible archaeological anomalies (S5).
