Summary

Earthworks, which probably relate to post medieval to modern drainage, are visible on aerial photographs to the west of the railway line at Suton, Wymondham. In 1964 a broad, well-defined ditch is clearly visible appearing to define a rectangular area or platform. This has the appearance of a medieval, or medieval to post medieval, enclosure site. However, due to the fact that the earthworks appear less well-defined and more like drainage channels in 1946, the site was not mapped.

Map

Earthworks, which probably relate to post medieval to modern date drainage are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3) to the west of the railway line at Suton, Wymondham (S1). The site is centred on TM 1020 9925. In 1964 (S2-S3) a broad, well-defined ditch is clearly visible appearing to define a rectangular area or platform. This has the appearance of a medieval, or medieval to post medieval, enclosure site. However, due to the fact that the earthworks appear less well-defined and more like drainage channels in 1946 (S1), the site was not mapped. It seems most likely that drain clearance or maintenance between 1946 and 1964 has altered the appearance of the site.
