Full Description
April 2012. Norfolk NMP.
An area of medieval to post medieval earthwork boundary ditches are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4) to the south of Burnthouse Farm, Silfield. The site is centred on TM 1306 9971, although the majority of the boundaries are located to the immediate south of Burnthouse Farm at TM 1317 9973. None of these curving boundaries were depicted on the available historical maps, but would appear to be extensions of those that are recorded, such as on the 1839 Wymondham Tithe map (S5). It was therefore decided not to map these features. A possible platform or small oblong enclosure may be visible at TM 1289 9976 (S2, S4). However again it seemed to be closely related to structures recorded at this location on the Tithe map.
S. Horlock (NMP), 12 April 2012.
