Map

April 2012. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks and soilmarks of a bank and ditch boundary are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2) to the north of Burnthouse Lane, Silfield. The site is centred on TM 1333 0001. This curving boundary is not marked on any available historic maps and seems to underlie those divisions marked on the 1839 Wymondham Tithe map (S3). Comparison of the location of the site with Faden’s map of 1797 (S4) could perhaps indicate that this boundary may have marked the edge of Silfield Common at some point.
S. Horlock (NMP), 12 April 2012.
