Summary

An area of earthworks, cropmarks and soilmarks of medieval to post medieval trackways and field boundaries is visible on aerial photographs to the south of Ashwellthorpe. The main component of which is the remains of a trackway curving southwards, which represents a former continuation of the trackway that passes Loke Farm to the west of the site. This trackway and other curving boundary and minor track components visible on the aerial photographs within this site, are likely to represent the remains of the medieval and pre-parliamentary enclosure landscape. None of these features were mapped as it was felt that they are likely to be recorded on historic maps of the area.

Map

March 2012. Norfolk NMP.
An area of earthworks, cropmarks and soilmarks of medieval to post medieval trackways and field boundaries is visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4) to the south of Ashwellthorpe. The site is centred on TM 1434 9713. However it was decided not to map any of these features as, although no pre-Ordnance Survey First Edition historic maps, such as Tithe or Enclosure, were available at the time of the NMP survey, it seems likely that some or all of these features may have been recorded on such maps.
