Full Description
August 2012.
The cropmarks of a group of fragmentary ditches and field boundaries, which are likely to be medieval to post medieval in date, are visible on aerial photographs (S1). The site is centred on TG 2583 2374. The majority of the boundaries are aligned the same as the medieval to post medieval fields in the area, as depicted on the 1828 Scottow Enclosure map (S2) and the 1839 Scottow Tithe map (S3), and as such are likely to be medieval to post medieval in date also. Cropmarks of boundaries actually on these surveys were omitted from the mapping. Additional cropmarks within this field have been recorded under NHER 36731, as they appear to represent a possible extension of the co-axial field system recorded to the east.
S. Horlock (HES), 30 August 2012.
