Summary

Fieldwalking and metal detecting at this site from 1974 onwards has recovered a wide variety of finds. Objects of note include prehistoric flint flakes, an Iron Age hasp, a Roman brooch, a Middle or Late Saxon buckle, a medieval lead pot mend and post medieval ceramic tiles. A medieval or post medieval hollow way previously recorded on this site is now detailed elsewhere (see NHER 38310).

1974. Stray Find.
Found on field surface at (Context 1) [1]:
1 Iron Age bronze hasp with rod hinge between two components. Decorated with red enamel on champleve technique and insets of blue and white glass. Possibly post conquest. For drawings (S1)-(S4).
Donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1975.52).

September 1974. Fieldwalking.
In east half of field flint flakes, iron slag (said to be common on surrounding fields), square bronze buckle with rocked tracer decoration (post medieval?) and post medieval tile and sherds - probably brought in with pig manure.

Iron Age bronze harness fitting, enamelled (blue, red and yellow enamel). Two pierced lugs, one with bronze pin inside. Broken at tapering end, and damaged along top edge near lugs.

Visit and earthwork survey for NLA/Royal Commission on Historic Monument.
Cropmark of roadway northwest and southeast across site noted on air photographs. Noted an approximately 40m length of hollow way in woodland about 5m wide and less than 1m deep extending northwest from junction of tracks. The cropmarks continue northwest for over 250m to edge of arable field, partly as hollow way, partly as ditched causeway. Roadway shown on Ordnance Survey 1in 1st edition map (S7).
