Full Description

September 2012. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of a possible medieval to post medieval enclosure are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4) on land to the east of Fen Farm, Larling. A possible field boundary ditch is also visible as a cropmark (S5), although this is only visible on one photograph and is showing in a rather unusual way.
The possible earthwork enclosure is centred on TL 9791 8973 and measures approximately 55m by 36m internally. Only three sides of the feature are visible as its western side is against the field boundary. It is situated in an area that has produced a wealth of multi-period finds (NHER 25921, 31402 and 53912), but appears likely to have been a focus for medieval activity. The enclosure has therefore tentatively been assigned a medieval to post medieval date, although it is clear that it could represent earlier activity also.
