Summary

Metal-detecting in 2012 and 2018 recovered Late Prehistoric flint flakes; Late Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; a medieval/post-medieval Boy Bishop token and post-medieval token; and undated, Bronze Age and Late Iron Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a fragment of Middle Bronze Age palstave; a Middle/Late Bronze Age two-edged tanged knife; Late Bronze Age awl; a Late Iron Age/Roman copper alloy bead and decorative stud; Roman finger rings, brooches, a furniture fitting, hair pin, bracelet fragment, harness mount, military harness mount, bead, military harness strap slide, dodecahedron, fragment of bracelet with a snake-head terminal and iron awl; an Early Saxon D-shaped buckle; a Middle Saxon pin; a possibly Late Saxon copper alloy ingot; a Late Saxon to post-medieval spindle whorl; medieval dress accessories, a finger-ring, casket key, strap fitting, mount and lead seal matrix; medieval/post-medieval copper alloy rings, lead weights, a writing lead, copper alloy vessel fragment, buckle, coin weight, purse bar fragment and lead spindle whorl or weight; post-medieval dress accessories, a harness mount, purse frame fragment, stud chape from a shoe buckle, coin weight, crotal bell, rotary key, book fitting, pair of dividers and lead cloth seal and an undated lead mount possibly from a ceiling and casting waste. The Roman metal finds recorded here, along with Roman building rubble and pottery recorded under NHER 9083, all indicate the site of a Roman building.
