Map

Salvation Army Hall. Small gable-fronted hall of 1880.
Information from (S1).
M. Langham-Lopez (HES), 22 October 2012.

A Salvation Army barracks is shown at this location on the Ordnance Survey 1:500 Town Plan map of 1886 (S2). This was though a fairly substantial building and clearly not the Salvation Army hall that now occupies the site (which has a different footprint and is unquestionably modern). The late 19th-century barracks can be seen on an oblique aerial photograph of King's Lynn taken in 1950 and now part of the Historic England Archive (S3).
The only possible trace of this original hall is a north-to-south aligned, rough carstone wall with brick banding running along the eastern boundary of the plot. It may be that this wall was not demolished along with the rest of the building because it was shared by the adjoining garages.
