Full Description
January 2012. Desk-based Assessment.
Rapid assessment of archaeological potential undertaken following groundworks completed without a required watching brief. The assessment concluded that the site is of relatively low archaeological potential and that it is unlikely significant remains were disturbed by this development.
There is no direct evidence to suggest the site had seen significant past activity and this area was most likely open, agricultural land prior to its development in the 19th century. Geotechnical work has also demonstrated that the site was made up and levelled around this time, with up to 1m of rubbly soil present beneath the modern ground surface. It is likely that the majority of the recent groundworks did not penetrate beneath this post-medieval deposit.
See report (S1) for further information.
