Summary

A systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey undertaken in 1999 recovered prehistoric worked flints; a small assemblage of Late Prehistoric, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; post-medieval ceramic building material; a medieval buckle and a range of post-medieval and undated metal objects. Subsequent metal-detecting in 2012 and 2013 recovered a medieval pottery sherd; medieval and post-medieval coins; post-medieval jettons and tokens and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include medieval dress accessories, bar mounts, a harness pendant, a key and a thimble; a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel leg, a rotary key, a lead weight and a tailor's thimble or sewing ring and a post-medieval button and belt or harness mount.

November 1999. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey.
Field survey of rectangular area to south of football training ground.
The finds recovered included:
1 prehistoric flint ?scraper, 3 cores, 1 hammerstone and 26 flakes.
1 Late Prehistoric pottery sherd.
3 ?prehistoric burnt flints.
1 Late Saxon pottery sherd.
1 medieval pottery sherd and 1 buckle.
7 post-medieval pottery sherds, 4 brick fragments, 5 pantile fragments, 4 roof tile fragments, 1 floor tile fragment, 2 buckles, 1 tack, 2 buttons and 1 copper alloy and lead knob.
1 post-medieval/modern ?shoe buckle.
1 undatable button, 1 iron harness buckle and 2 fragments of lead waste.

Medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel leg, a rotary key and a tailor's thimble or sewing ring.
1 post-medieval coin, 2 tokens, 1 jetton, button and a belt or harness mount.
