Full Description
April 2012. Norfolk NMP.
A small group of fragmentary cropmarks of unknown, but possible later prehistoric or Roman date, are visible on aerial photographs (S1) to the east of Silfield Road, Wymondham. The site is centred on TM 1183 0012. The vast majority of these features are visible as faint and fragmentary cropmarks, seemingly representing the remains of former ditches and field boundaries. However it is worth noting that was hard to ascertain whether the cropmarks were archaeological, agricultural or geological in origin in some cases. The nearby presence of Roman and prehistoric surface material (NHER 25890 & 33079) could suggest that that some of the cropmarks date to these periods.
S. Horlock (NMP), 12 April 2012.
August 2012. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of large proposed development site to west of A11.
Although the area examined coincided with a number of the cropmarks in this group no corresponding anomalies were identified.
See report (S2) and NHER 65552 for further details.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 20 April 2022.
August-October 2015. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site to west of A11.
Although the excavated trenches coincided with elements of several cropmark groups (at TG 12020 014, TG 1181 0024 and TM 1181 9996), no corresponding sub-surface remains were recorded.
See NHER 65552 for further details.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 21 April 2022.
