Map

October 2012. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of at least one possible medieval to post medieval enclosure or drainage ditches are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1-S4) to the north-east of Breckles Hall, Stow Bedon.
The site is centred on TL 9626 9465 and consists of several north-south field boundary, or drainage ditches. It is possible that these features relate to post medieval drainage ditches and are not, in fact, archaeological in nature, but they have been mapped due to their proximity to the possible medieval moated site associated with Breckles Hall, marked on the Ordnance Survey map (S5), and the deserted medieval settlement NHER 11929), situated approximately 180m to the west. In fact, it is possible that the fragmentary linear ditches to the south of the area, centred on TL 9625 9451, measuring internally 44m by at least 672m, may represent the ‘moat’ depicted on the map, but these ditches are only visible on one photographic frame which is undated and does not have a stereo pair, and it is therefore difficult to be certain of their nature. The rectification of this frame was also imperfect, so their exact location should be viewed with a hint of caution also.
