Summary

Earthworks of a possible medieval to post medieval trackway, field boundary and or possible drainage ditch are visible on aerial photographs to the west of Shropham Hall. Those previously recorded to the north (NHER 35455) have been identified as modern drainage ditches, but it is possible that at least one earthwork bank feature visible here may be of earlier origin.

Map

November 2012. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of a possible medieval to post medieval trackway, field boundary and or possible drainage ditch are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3) to the west of Shropham Hall. Those previously recorded to the north (NHER 35455) have been identified as modern drainage ditches, but it is possible that at least one earthwork bank feature visible here may be of earlier origin.
The linear earthwork bank runs from TL 9620 9354 to TL 9652 9364 and appears earlier than, being cut by, the post medieval drainage ditches to the north.
It measures up to 15m in width, and may represent a medieval to post medieval trackway, perhaps related to the Little Breckles deserted medieval settlement (NHER 12152 and NHER 57457) to the east.
E. Ford (NMP), 06 November 2012.
