Map

The landscape park associated with Cranmer Hall (NHER 2002) is shown on historic maps and is visible on aerial photographs. The park comprises an irregular area with woodland belts around its perimeter. It is not depicted on the county maps published by Faden in 1797 (S1) or Bryant in 1826 (S2) but had been laid out by the time of the 1838 Sculthorpe tithe map (S3). The creation of the park resulted in the diversion of two existing roads; a north to south Roman road (NHER 1791) and a southwest to northeast road between Tattersett and West Barsham. Both of these roads and the hall, which dates from 1721, are shown on (S1) and (S2). The extent of the park is most clearly visible on the first edition six inch to the mile Ordnance Survey map dating from the 1880s (S4). At that date a spur of parkland extended from the southeast corner of the park linking it to the grounds of Sculthorpe Manor (NHER 2003). The probable site of a brick kiln (NHER 58246) is marked as Brickyard Plantation in the eastern edge of the park (S4). Google Earth aerial imagery from 2006 shows the interior of the park under arable cultivation but the perimeter plantations survive largely intact (S5).
