Summary

A rapid earthwork identification survey in 2011 located a semi-circular depression that was probably an extraction pit. It is also visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs and on lidar imagery from a survey flown in 2015. It corresponds to a quarry pit shown on an early 20th century Ordnance Survey map.

February 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The quarry pit described above is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs such as (S2) and lidar imagery from a survey flown in 2015 (S3). It corresponds to a quarry pit shown on the 1902-1907 Ordnance Survey 25-inch map (S4), but is not shown on the First Edition 6-inch map (S5), indicating that it is probably of modern date. The mapped extent of this record has been amended to reflect its location and extent as visible on the lidar [1], but it has not been mapped.
