Full Description
December 2012. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks of a rectangular ditched enclosure, or possible medieval moat, are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2), on Barn Common, Quidenham. Faden’s map of Norfolk depicts a pond in the vicinity, although it is not possible to tell if this feature corresponds to that on the map.
The rectangular ditched feature is centred on TM 0437 9030, and measures 32m by 11m internally. It has a possible extension on its northern side, which appears to run into a drainage channel, indicating that it may have performed some kind of drainage function, or at least was prevented from over flowing by a run-off ditch.
E. Ford (NMP), 4 December 2012.
