Map

August-September 2012. Building Recording.
A photographic survey of a complex of four early to mid-19th century brick and flint barns was undertaken in advance of conversion to residential use. The buildings consisted of a smithy, stables and associated cattle yard, a dairy, and a threshing barn. The tithe map of 1840 (S1) depicts an L-shaped barn, presumably the present stables and threshing barn, as well as two further barns to the south and one to the east which were destroyed sometime prior to the survey. The threshing barn was converted into two cottages in the early 20th century, but was restored for use as a barn in the late 1950's. Large-scale farming on this site ceased in the 1970's and since this time the barns have been cleared of all farm machinery and fittings.
See (S2) and (S3) for further information.
