Full Description
April 2011. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with renovations to the external boiler room of St John the Baptist Church (NHER 5577).
Three inhumations were encountered, although the graves had been previously disturbed by the original construction of the boiler room and as a result their cuts could not be easily defined. The burials consisted of the partial remains of three individuals which were laid in a supine position on a roughly east-west alignment. At least one burial had been placed in a coffin. The grave fills contained a large amount of struck flint flakes and stones which may have been derived from the 19th century building works.
See report (S1) for more information.
