Summary

Metal-detecting between 2012 and 2017 recovered prehistoric worked flints, including a Mesolithic/Neolithic axe trimming flake and Neolithic/Bronze Age flakes, a scraper and borer; Middle Saxon, Late Saxon, Roman and post-medieval coins and Early Bronze Age and Late Iron Age/Roman to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include an Early Bronze Age flat axehead; a Late Iron Age/early Roman toggle and brooches; Roman brooches, a furniture fitting, finger ring, penannular bracelet fragment, a highly unusual figurine, steelyard weight and copper alloy vessel fragment; Early Saxon brooches; Middle Saxon brooches and a double-hooked dress fastener; a Late Saxon finger ring, harness link, brooches and stirrup-strap mount; Late Saxon to post-medieval spindle whorls; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval harness mounts, a silver crucifix, brooch, swivel for a leash, pendent bell, coin weight and a mount or stud; a medieval/post-medieval writing lead, crotal bell, hooked book mounts and weights and post-medieval harness mounts, possible keyhole cover, a Jew's harp, coin weight, hinge plate from a box or casket, a plate fragment from a sword belt, a possible balance arm and a pendant from a sword belt hanger.
