Summary

A late 10th century carved walrus ivory pectoral cross depicting the crucifixion was found in 1878 during construction of the subterranean toilets.

This was in fact found in 1878 during the construction of the public lavatories on the site later occupied by the Cavell Memorial. The reference to the 'minster' therefore is misleading.
