Summary

This is the site of a World War Two 'gun pit.' The pit was in-filled in 1948, when a Bronze Age palstave was recovered (see NHER 8231), but in 2012 the steel pin of a spigot mortar emplacement was just visible, projecting above the modern ground surface.
