Summary

The earthworks of a series of enclosures, likely to relate to medieval to post medieval common-edge settlement, are visible on aerial photographs at Portwood farm, Great Ellingham. The site is located alongside a relatively major drainage channel and it is likely that some of these earthworks also functioned as drainage works. Faden’s map of 1797 indicates that this site was previously located next to Full Carr Common and is likely to be common-edge settlement. The most recent Google Earth imagery indicates that the earthworks are still extant in places.
