Full Description
November 1999. Earthwork Survey.
A small, square brick structure incorporating the churchyard wall of St Mary's Church (NHER 9631) was recorded during an earthwork survey. The brickwork indicates it was likely constructed in the 16th century and its form is consistent with a dovecote, although in living memory it was used as a stable. The field incorporating this structure is labelled as Dove House Meadow on the tithe map of 1841 (S1), supporting the suggestion that it was a dovecote.
See (S2) for further details.

December 1999. Field observation.
The remains of the structure are three-sided. The east side is formed by the churchyard wall and the south side open. The bricks are believed to be 17th century, and the construction indicates that the south side was always open. The identification as a dovecote has been challenged.
See (S3) for further details.
